Stumbling on Happiness

I stumbled (haha) onto this book as I've been doing some soul searching. My whole life I grew up in a family that had argued over money. I had thought that money would solve my situation. I prayed I could grow up faster and faster I did by graduating 1 year early from college and getting an amazing job at IBM with 6 figure salary.

However, even after going from earning almost nothing other than tutoring money to six figures, I felt no different. I had thought money would buy my freedom. That I could live by myself and leave my parents alone and leave that life behind. However, I learned that that is not the case. I have responsibilities. My dad is legally blind and needs help going to the doctors. My grandparents and mom can not read English as immigrants so I need to help with everything.

Money does not buy happiness. It does not buy freedom, when you are chained by responsibilities. So I decided to read this book to understand a little more about my psychology. Overall a very interesting book on how your mind plays tricks on you, and by the law of self reproduction and natural selection, the very idea that money buys happiness is allowed to multiply throughout our society. This book also mentioned some very interesting psychology studies like the retirement home one where the elderly were given control and how taking away that control made them worse off than if they never had it in the first place.

After this book, I am still searching for an answer in my heart.
